“First micro hydrogen fuel cell power source arrives in Australia,
Fuel Cell Institute of Australia Pty Limited has received the first micro hydrogen fuel cell power source, powering a small light. This pre-commercial unit is powered by hydrogen stored in a small cylinder, holding ten (10) litres of hydrogen at low pressure. Over thirty (30) micro and portable fuel cell manufacturers will release similar products during year 2006,ahead of their global release set for Jan 1 2007.
Micro and portable fuel cells are designed to power portable electronic devices like mobile phones, digital cameras, PDAs, laptop computers, MP3 players, radios and so. Such new technology offers much more power supply to the increasing energy demands of these digital portable electronic devices of today and tomorrow. The market penetration for micro and portable fuel cells is anticipated to increase over a period to year 2010, peaking around year 2013 or sooner.
When billions of portable electronic devices like mobile phones are recharged with electricity on a regular basis, they invariably use a power socket and draw electricity from a power station. This massive number of portable electronic devices being recharged this way, has developed over the last decade, and is destined to double during the next decade. This is now a growing concern as the associated global warming effect generated, needs to be countered.
If micro hydrogen fuel cells refilled with renewable energy based hydrogen from water, were allowed to power or recharge the billion mobile phones of today, not only would there be zero (0) emission, but all users could potentially dispense with the need for a power socket forever.”
